Commercial photographer and founder of Espoo-based Three Pod Studio, Reka Peurala, has been awarded the Qualified European Photographer (QEP) title in the Commercial category by the Federation of European Professional Photographers (FEP).
The QEP is among Europe's most respected professional photography qualifications. Unlike traditional photography competitions that evaluate individual images, the QEP is awarded on the basis of an entire body of work. Candidates must demonstrate technical excellence, consistency, authorship, and a distinctive creative vision across a complete photographic panel.
The qualification follows shortly after Reka was awarded the European Photographer (EP) title last month. Receiving both distinctions within a matter of weeks marks a significant milestone in her professional career.
The awarded panel consists of twelve commercial food and beverage photographs carefully curated from the photographer's wider body of work and presented together as 'Not Just For the Eye', a project backed by Finnfoto that explores the relationship between commercial and fine art photography.
The project challenges a common assumption within the visual arts. While commercial photographs are typically judged by their effectiveness in serving a brand or marketing objective, they are rarely discussed through the same lens as fine art. Through 'Not Just For the Eye', Reka invites viewers to consider whether the boundaries between the two are as clear as they often appear.
Several photographs included in the panel have previously received international recognition through photography competitions, curated collections, and professional judging panels.
"Commercial photography is often viewed as functional rather than artistic," says Reka. "This project explores what happens when visual marketing tools are presented as a coherent body of work and evaluated on their visual, conceptual, and creative qualities."
The project is intended to reach audiences beyond the qualification process, with further public-facing developments planned for later this year.
Based in Espoo, Finland, Three Pod Studio specialises in commercial food and beverage photography, food styling, creative direction, stop motion, and custom visual content production for brands and agencies across Europe and beyond.

A finnországi Espoo városában működő Three Pod Studio alapítója és fotográfusa, Peurala Réka, elnyerte a Federation of European Professional Photographers (FEP) által odaítélt Qualified European Photographer (QEP) minősítést Commercial (reklámcélú fotózás) kategóriában.
A QEP Európa egyik legelismertebb szakmai fotográfiai minősítése. A hagyományos versenyekkel szemben, amelyek egyedi képeket értékelnek, a QEP egy komplex alkotói portfólió alapján kerül odaítélésre. A pályázóknak technikai kiválóságot, következetességet, egyéni látásmódot és jól felismerhető alkotói látásmódot kell bemutatniuk egy kohézív panelen keresztül.
A minősítés alig néhány héttel azután történt, hogy Réka elnyerte az European Photographer (EP) címet. A két nemzetközi szakmai elismerés ilyen rövid időn belüli megszerzése jelentős mérföldkő a fotós pályafutásában.
A díjazott panel tizenkét reklámcélú étel- és italfotóból áll, amelyeket a fotográfus korábbi munkáiból válogatott össze és a 'Not Just For the Eye' („Nem csak a szemnek”) projekt keretében mutatott be. A projekt a Finnfoto támogatásával valósul meg, és a reklám valamint a képzőművészeti fotográfia kapcsolatát vizsgálja.
A projekt egy gyakran megkérdőjelezetlen feltételezést állít középpontba. Míg a reklámfotókat általában az alapján értékelik, hogy mennyire szolgálnak egy brandet vagy marketingcélt, ritkán tekintenek rájuk ugyanazon a szemüvegen keresztül, mint a képzőművészeti alkotásokra. A 'Not Just For the Eye' arra invitálja a nézőt, hogy újragondolja, valóban olyan egyértelműek-e a határok a két terület között, mint azt gyakran feltételezzük.

In a significant achievement for Finnish photography and small businesses, Reka Csulak of Three Pod Studio has been shortlisted in the Still Life category of the prestigious Spotlight Awards 2024. Out of thousands of global submissions, Reka’s work has earned a place in the Top 10 in the world, a monumental milestone for both herself and Finland.
The award-winning photograph was created for the commercial campaigns of the photographer’s client, a biodynamic Finnish honey brand. "I’m thrilled to not only showcase my photography but also highlight the exceptional product of my client, Hikiän, to an international audience," said Reka. The Spotlight Awards, hosted by Production Paradise, promote world-class commercial photographers and creative services to leading advertising agencies, magazines, brands, and corporate clients. Since moving to Finland in 2021, Reka has established a 100% Finnish company, Three Pod Studio, operating from her professionally equipped home studio in Espoo, near Helsinki from where she serves local and international clients and also travels worldwide for on-location projects.

Jelentős elismerés érte a magyar és finn fotográfiát: Csulak Réka, a Three Pod Studio alapítója bejutott a rangos Spotlight Awards 2024 verseny Csendélet kategóriájának 10 legjobbja közé. A több ezer nemzetközi jelentkező közül Reka munkája a világ legjobbjai közé került, ami komoly mérföldkő nemcsak az ételfotós számára, hanem Magyarországnak és Finnországnak is.
A díjnyertes kép a fotós ügyfelének, egy biodinamikus finn méz márka reklámkampányához készült. „Örömmel tölt el, hogy nemcsak a fotóimat mutathatom meg, hanem egyúttal ügyfelem, a Hikiän kivételes termékét is megismertethetem a nemzetközi közönséggel” – mondta Réka. „Különleges élmény egy helyi márkát globális szinten képviselni.”

The internationally recognised and award-winning photographer Réka Csulak specialises in food photography. An exhibition of her works can be viewed in the corridor gallery of the Liszt Institute until September 30.
Growing up in Hungary, Reka has spent the past 6 years living an expat life across Europe while staying connected to her roots via food memories. She found her profession as a professional food photographer by combining her artistic vision with her love for home cooking. Reka fulfilled her dream by moving back to the North in 2021 and with this, she and her family business Three Pod Studio also found home in Espoo.
Silmän ruokaa – Reka Csulakin ruokakuvia Liszt-instituutin käytävägalleriassa
Kansainvälisissä valokuvauskilpailuissa palkittu unkarilaiskuvaaja Reka Csulak on erikoistunut ruokakuvien ottamiseen. Hänen kuvistaan on esillä näyttely instituutin käytävägalleriassa 30.9. saakka.
Reka Csulak on viimeisten kuuden vuoden ajan elänyt eri puolilla Eurooppaa, pitäen kiinni perinteistään ruoan kautta. Three Pod Studio founder Réka Csulak understands this since she was cooking and baking with her ancestors from an early age and spent a lot of time exploring what the soul of every recipe they created is.
Following her heart with love for food and arts, she enrolled in the Le Cordon Bleu to study the craft of food styling and photography. The same institute that gave the world Julia Child was a perfect place to get a solid foundation of the skills needed to succeed in her business.
Rooted in her creativity and deep love for different cuisines, her photos bring authenticity to the table. She curates a unique portfolio with a perfect combination of using beautiful lights and props to translate the brand identity of her clients into a visual story. For that, she uses her excellent photography skills in combination with her know-how of cooking, and understanding of the processes of developing recipes and perfecting dishes.
Her family business found a home in Finland, where she has resided since 2021. Her clientele includes brands like The Helsinki Distilling Company, Fygë Food, Kockums Jernverk, Järki Särki, Green Planet Astronauts, Riitan Herkku, Tokumaru, Hunajayhtymä and many more companies in Finland and several other countries.
After being a photographer, stylist, recipe developer and food blogger with 5+ years of experience, she is also educating and helping fellow creators and entrepreneurs to polish their style and portfolio and find their niche within the industry.
Her business in Finland turns one year old this month. She is already booking up fast with clients drawn to her international experience, specific view and angle in food and product photography to bring her unique vision to their table.
